"My purpose in helping people goes beyond the boundaries of my laboratory."
Meet Cristina Costa, who is a Pharmacologist, Neuroscience in vitro, Pharmac. & Biology in Bial!
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND AND MOTIVATIONS
I obtained my master's degree in Biochemistry at ICBAS, where every day, when I entered the facilities, I could read the quote "The doctor who only knows medicine, doesn't even know medicine." I couldn't agree more. I always try to see problems holistically, because I believe that we cannot reduce diseases and disorders to just one neurotransmitter, one protein, or one gene. By recognizing that everything is important and interconnected, we can better understand the underlying mechanisms and discover effective approaches to treatment.
WHY BIAL?
BIAL's mission and the possibility of having a positive impact on people's lives sparked my interest.
Over the years, BIAL has transformed its culture and values maintaining a healthy balance between the personal and professional lives of its employees. In addition, it also values work and commitment, through competitive compensation packages and opportunities for career progression and personal growth.
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?
The best thing about my job is the constant opportunity to learn and discover new things about the human brain, both in health and disease. This knowledge allows me to make informed decisions and contribute to the development of potential therapies.
In my daily routine, I typically implement and conduct assays to screen or characterize new chemical compounds for a given target and evaluate potential targets for curing diseases, with a specific focus on the central nervous system.
I also participate in discussions with colleagues from diverse backgrounds to define strategies and develop our molecules for our BIAL projects. In addition, I dedicate time to reading scientific articles and evaluating new targets for future projects.
THE JOURNEY AT BIAL
If there were one word I could use to describe my experience at BIAL, it would be "gratifying," because I feel deep satisfaction and fulfillment in my work. Every day, I feel that I can make a positive impact and contribute to something meaningful.
This job not only allows me to grow professionally, but also gives me a sense of purpose and fulfillment in my personal life!
