“It’s hard to find a livelier company than this”

Meet Daniel Oliveira, Senior HR Digital Specialist!

ACADEMIA AND MOTIVATION
When I was a child, I would always give the same answer to the “what do you want to be when you grow up” question, but then someone asked me “why?”. Such a powerful question made me realise I was just copying what others wanted. In my teenage years, I finally understood what my “grow up” pillars would be: to find a job I love (so I can withstand performing it for more than 40 years!) and create my own comic book. I always wanted a job that would make me understand people a bit better, so I attained a master’s degree in psychology, and worked for 5 years in HR in the Portuguese Red Cross (Braga’s branch) before coming to Bial, but finding the "perfect fit" of a job was something that made itself clear with my current role.

WHY BIAL?
I said “yes” to Bial twice. The first time I was asked to replace a maternity leave, which was a temporary job, and there was no headcount to continue. I said “yes” because, for the first time, I would have peers in HR, and not just a manager or people reporting to me. That may seem weird, but having peers from the same field feels amazing. A few months after that had ended, Bial contacted me again, and with a transformed role that would benefit both Bial and my motivation, so I had 2 reasons to accept: I loved the people, and I loved the job. It was a simple decision.

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?
Imagine going to a dungeon with a mage, a fighter, a paladin, a cleric, and a rogue, having to deal with challenges on a higher level than us. We discuss together how we’re going to tackle whatever monster of a task/project we have, bring our strengths to the table, support our teammates’ weak points, and get the job done (if all goes well!). That’s our team. Working in HR means you need to know how to deal with people, and one thing I have learned is that there is no perfect solution to anything. People are very different from one another and have very different opinions, so we really need different roles within our team to guide us through these challenges, and I couldn’t ask for a better team (an additional bard would be nice, though!).

I would describe Bial with the word “potential”. In such a small amount of time, this company has changed so much that it feels like everything could be possible in the future. To me, to change is a synonym of “being alive”, and it’s hard to find a livelier company than this.
