“Bial is synonymous with inspiration”
Meet Marlene Oliveira, Senior Manager, Regional Sales!
ACADEMIA AND MOTIVATION
Born in “Pooorto”, a true tripeirinha* at heart, a proud FC Porto supporter, and a big fan of a great Francesinha. I’m all about moving forward, guided by curiosity and a desire to discover. I live among maps, drawn to new ideas and new worlds, to diverse experiences and challenges that help me grow, whether in travel or at work. I believe that what I take from life is the life I choose to live. That’s why I don’t like to simply pass through places or roles; I like to live them, feel them, and absorb them deeply. I thrive in dynamic environments, around people who make things happen, and in turning intention into results with focus and discipline. That energy of movement and initiative is something I carry into everything I do. I am a lawyer by background, and while studying Law, a friend used to say repeatedly that I would become a Medical Representative at Bial. At the time, it sounded almost like a joke, something highly unlikely. Years later, I decided to take a chance. I applied only once to the Pharmaceutical Industry, through an advert in the Newspaper Expresso, yes, on paper, as was done 20 years ago… I was invited to a selection process without knowing which company it was for. I remember sitting in a room, taking psychometric tests, with the sound of beeps marking the minutes… and a huge sense of expectation in the air. Only at the end of the morning did I find out it was for Bial. For Bial!!! I was euphoric. Suddenly, those words repeated over the years stopped being a coincidence and started to feel like destiny.
WHY BIAL?
I said “yes” to Bial because, from the very first moment, I felt that my work here would have a real impact, and that fills me with pride. It’s not just a role. It’s the opportunity to be part of something bigger. I could truly picture myself growing here, both professionally and personally. In every medical call, in every project, there is a very clear awareness: there are patients on the other side. Real people, with stories, families, fears, and hopes, who will benefit from what we do. That is what gives meaning to my work. Seeing my Team contribute with such dedication, always aiming to improve patients’ lives, is deeply rewarding. Our achievements are not measured only in results; they are measured in lives touched, in more time, in more possibilities. That’s why “To be Partners in Life” is not just a phrase. It’s what we feel, live, and build every single day.
WHAT’S IT LIKE TO WORK AT BIAL?
This year, I celebrate 20 years with the company. Over these two decades, I have grown with Bial and within Bial. I truly feel like a Bialer. I have a strong sense of belonging and value the inclusive environment where everyone can express their ideas. Bial is synonymous with inspiration. I know that behind every advancement there is innovation, the search for new solutions, and a clear vision for the future. Working for a company with over 100 years of history that adapts with agility to challenges and embraces change gives great confidence in the path we are building. It is this combination of purpose, values, and people that makes me, 20 years later, still be here with pride and motivation. As a Regional Sales Manager, no day is ever the same. I enjoy being in the field with my Team and clients, understanding their needs. In addition to managing the team’s overall operation and ensuring strategy implementation, I analyse results, make joint decisions on Investments, and promote development initiatives. More than managing, I aim to inspire action, listen to each person, support them in overcoming challenges, and create the conditions for every team member to grow and give their best.
