Established in 1984, the BIAL Award has been rewarding relevant health professionals from different countries, fostering the basic and the clinical research in the area of health. Taking place every two years it is one of the most prestigious awards of scientific research in the area of health in Europe.
Up to its last edition of 2016, the BIAL Award has been establishing two prizes written specifically for this purpose: the “BIAL Merit Award in Medical Sciences”- designed to distinguish an intellectual written work, on any freely chosen medical topic, of high quality and scientific relevance; and the “BIAL Award in Clinical Medicine”- designed to distinguish an intellectual written work, on any freely chosen medical topic, of high quality and relevance, on clinical practice.
The “BIAL Award in Clinical Medicine” and eventually some of the other winning works, have been published by the BIAL Foundation, as an exclusive edition of ten thousand copies, which are distributed to health professionals, free of charge.
Along the previous editions, the BIAL Award has followed the evolution and trends in Research and Medicine. It has distinguished numerous works in the field of the civilization diseases, genetics, molecular medicine, imagiology, regenerative and substitutive therapeutics among many others.
Since its inception, the BIAL Award has examined 655 works, has mobilized 1591 researchers, doctors and scientists from 20 countries, and has distinguished 266 authors from 5 countries (99 prize-winning works) over the 17 editions. The result of 30 years of dedication to research has been the publication and (free) distribution to health professionals of more than 312.000 copies of 37 award-winning works.
