BIAL to discuss scientific advances in Epilepsy

· BIAL RISE Event will take stock of advances related to one of the most common neurological conditions globally that affects more than 50 million people1

· Neurologists Marco Mula and Vicente Villanueva will be the guest speakers

· Meeting in Dublin to take place on 4 September during the week of the 35th International Epilepsy Congress (IEC, organised by ILAE and IBE).

The latest scientific evidence and the most promising advances for the treatment of epilepsy will be analysed at BIAL RISE Event on 4 September in Dublin (Republic of Ireland). The psychiatric, behavioural, and cognitive effects of antiepileptic medication and the relationship between patient, medication and healthcare professional will be the focus of the event, which will discuss this disease which affects between 40,000 and 70,000 patients in Portugal and 50 million people worldwide.1,2

BIAL RISE will be a great opportunity to contact two of the world's most recognised experts in the disease, neurologists Marco Mula (UK) and Vicente Villanueva (Spain), who will address topics such as the performance of antiepileptic medication and the level of patient involvement in the choice of the most appropriate treatment.

According to Diogo Magalhães, Senior Manager of Global Medical Affairs at BIAL, "the debate on neuropsychiatric comorbidities is increasingly necessary in decision-making in Epilepsy. We think BIAL RISE will be a great opportunity for a broad discussion of clinical practice, aiming to provide greater support, transparency, consistency and safety in the management of these patients."

According to Vicente Villanueva, one of the invited experts, "Psychiatric, behavioural and cognitive disorders are a big burden for people with Epilepsy. Looking forward to discuss with the audience the appropriate selection of anti-seizure medications, sharing recent evidence and clinical practice tips."

The event will take place in Dublin, Ireland, where the 35th International Epilepsy Congress (IEC, organised by ILAE and IBE) will be held from 2-6 September. Register for the event at Bial – Rise Event.
