
With the aim of encouraging the investigation into Man’s physical and mental processes, namely in fields that warrant further scientific analysis, the Bial Foundation has established in 1994 a system of Bursaries for Scientific Research. A new Bursary package is now available as a 9th edition, with the following characteristics:
1. Object and purpose of the Bursaries - Only the fields of Psychophysiology and Parapsychology shall be covered by this package. The objectives to be met by the applicants shall be set by the Research Programme under application.
2. Addressees - All scientific researchers will be admitted as applicants, either individually or in groups, except those working for the Bial Foundation or for any of the companies belonging to the Bial Group. The current Fellows of the Foundation shall also be admitted as applicants; however, they shall only benefit from new bursaries after successful completion of the work for which they are receiving support.
3. Duration and commencement - The bursaries shall have the maximum duration of 3 years and shall commence between 1st November 2010 and 31st October 2011.
4. Amount and periodicity of the Bursaries - The approved applications shall benefit from bursaries in amounts comprised between €5000 and €50 000.
The amount to be granted to each bursary shall be fixed in accordance with the needs of the Research Programme under application.
The payments shall be made yearly or half-yearly. This periodicity shall be defined in accordance with the schedule of the Research Programme.
5. Applications - Applications should be submitted in English or Portuguese language using the application form, in accordance with the applicable regulations, and should be sent in duplicate, by regular mail, to the Board of Directors of the Bial Foundation by 31st August 2010. 6. Assessment of applications and disclosure of results - Applications shall be assessed by the Scientific Board of the Bial Foundation. The decision shall be disclosed, by notice to the applicants, within a term of 4 months as from the deadline for filing applications.
7. Applicable Regulation - The application implies the full acceptance by the applicant or applicants of the Regulation of Bursaries for Scientific Research of the Bial Foundation, approved by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia in pursuance of Law nº 40/2004, of 18th August.
